In 2008, through the generosity of our oboe player, Jennifer Dunham and her school, The Dunham Academy, we were blessed to be able to rehearse and perform at St Vincent’s School for Boys, near
San Rafael, CA, in north central Marin County.

The large courtyard behind the school is bounded beautifully on three sides by arcade-shaded classrooms, and opens on the fourth side to a silent grassy wetland on the bay.  This is the perfect place to play acoustic band music, and since 2008 we have presented an annual invitation-only Mid Summer Musicale at twilight on a Sunday evening near the solstice.  In 2011 we coordinated the event directly with St Vincent’s and opened the event to the general public.  For helping this to happen, we would like to thank Jacqui Devine of St Vincents.

Banda Italiana di Marin
presented its 4th annual Mid-Summer’s Evening Musicale on Sunday, June 12, 2011
in the grand courtyard at St Vincent’s School for Boys.

Socializing, cookies, Prosecco and other refreshments were served at 7:00, followed by our concert at 7:30.  As in our other Mid-Summer’s Musicales the weather was beautiful, and as the sun set slowly, a large egret flew up from behind the band as the music lifted, and sailed over the audience toward the moon. Each year, after the concert, as we break down and clean up after dark, owls swoop around our heads as if to say it’s time for us to leave, to give them back their courtyard by the bay.
